Emily Hoey is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Merseyside. She grew up on the Wirral, and studied Fine Art at the University of Leeds.

Artist Statement

“My work has grown out of the landscapes that raised me - woodlands and secret corners where nature feels full of its own stories. I’m interested in capturing moments that feel like thresholds between worlds, where you’re slowly overtaken by the idea that you’ve stumbled into something.

My thoughts often turn toward the ways relationships change shape over time. I’m fascinated by how we can often grieve people and places that aren’t gone, even past and future versions of ourselves that surface in our minds unexpectedly.

Lately, I’ve been folding symbolic and mythic imagery into natural environments, using them as a lens to explore how we can navigate loss and acceptance through other stories.

Right now, my main focus is in oil painting, using scale to build environments that feel mysterious and slightly uncanny.

I’m always seeking opportunities to expand this dialogue through exhibitions, collaborations, residencies, or publication.”
